Raising Awareness: ‘Corona Awareness and Safety’ Program for Government Schools

As the world navigates the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, Ramya MK, Founder of ‘Maya – The Reality’ Foundation, and Vinodh Channakrishna of Parivarthanum Trust proactively addressed the need for awareness and safety in schools. They organized the ‘Corona Awareness and Safety’ program across government schools in Bangalore, educating students about COVID-19 and empowering them to adopt safety measures to protect themselves, their families, and their communities.

The program actively engaged students with an interactive session on COVID-19 basics, covering how the virus spreads, its symptoms, and how children can prevent transmission. Facilitators used visuals, stories, and real-life examples to ensure concepts were easily understood. They demonstrated proper hygiene practices, such as wearing masks correctly, washing hands effectively, and maintaining social distancing. The facilitators debunked myths about COVID-19 and vaccines by addressing misinformation, encouraging students to trust reliable sources and share accurate information.

Interactive Learning and Safety Kits

The program made learning engaging through role-playing scenarios, quizzes, and a poster-making competition, allowing students to creatively express messages about staying safe during the pandemic. Facilitators distributed safety kits, including masks, hand sanitizers, and informative pamphlets, ensuring students had the tools to implement what they learned daily.

Impact and Vision for the Future

The initiative empowered students to become safety ambassadors in their communities, teaching hygiene practices to family members and encouraging peers to follow safety protocols. Teachers praised the program’s practical approach to keeping schools and communities safe. Inspired by the program’s success, ‘Maya – The Reality’ Foundation and Parivarthanum Trust plan to expand similar initiatives, focusing on health, safety, and education to create a healthier, more informed society.

Speaking about the initiative, Ramya MK emphasized, “The safety of our children and their families is our top priority. Together, we can overcome these challenges as a community.”

Vinodh Channakrishna added, “Awareness is the first step toward prevention. By equipping children with the right knowledge, we’re helping create safer environments for everyone.”
